Gift Planning:

Donations of appreciated stock or directed donations from a retirement account such as an IRA or 401(k), can be advantageous for both the donor and Generations United. This is especially true if you are required to take out Required Minimum Distributions (RMD’s) from your retirement accounts. At your request, your plan’s administrator should be able to make direct donations from your account to Generations United. If done in this manner you may enjoy substantial tax benefits and GU is allowed to accept the donated amount without a tax liability.

Planned gifts, such as bequests or charitable trusts, can also be an advantageous way to provide for a future gift to Generations United. Consider supporting Generations United’s important work through a planned gift by including Generations United in your will or through a donor-advised fund.

Please contact Lauren Hackney (lhackney@gu.org) if you would like more information about how to direct these types of donations to Generations United. Before making your decisions you may wish to consult your personal tax, legal, and accounting advisors, as well as family members. Their guidance is important in assisting you as you create or update your financial and estate plans.

Please notify our donor services team of your gift at gu@gu.org or 202-289-3979 so we can be sure to acknowledge your gift properly.
