“Not having funds to access food that will provide the right type of food nutrients.”
“Food insecurity is one of the biggest threats to raising a healthy family in this country. Not having funds to access food that will provide the right type of food nutrients. Many grandparents raising their grandchildren fall into this category. Native Americans are also disproportionately part of this population due to their isolated communities and lack of resources.
There are many ways that we can make a difference. If you plant a garden, you can share the vegetables. When you go to a Farmer’s Market, buy extra fruits and vegetables and share with less fortunate families in your neighborhood.”

WHAT CAN BE
“Food is energy, food is sustenance, food is something we use to connect with each other.”
“Food is not just something we use to fill our bellies when we’re hungry, food is energy, food is sustenance, food is something we use to connect with each other. But one other thing that food is, is that it is a key part of our health.
Fruits, vegetables, proper vitamins, minerals, and water – the good stuff. The good stuff is where we get to see what our bodies can really do and improve mental and physical function. In youth, it helps keep the brain stable and helps the body stay in good condition for anything.”
– Mauricio, Age 15
