Ilonka Walker is the Intergenerational Specialist at Generations United, where she leads and oversees a variety of intergenerational programs that foster meaningful connections between younger and older generations. With a strong background in program management, she excels at building inclusive communities and advancing the principles of healthy aging. In her current role, Ilonka works to amplify the diversity and reach of intergenerational initiatives nationwide, helping to bridge gaps between generations across the country. She also leads Generations United’s Intergenerational Housing Learning Network, which is dedicated to creating accessible housing solutions that cater to people of all backgrounds. Ilonka organized the Intergenerational Housing Symposium at Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies, where experts came together to discuss innovative housing models, promising practices, and policies. She has also helped coordinate with the social media outreach team to bridge educational content across generations. Previously, Ilonka worked as a Special Education Teacher, where she managed classroom staff, developed individualized education plans, and provided tailored support to students with diverse needs. Ilonka holds a BS in Psychology and a Master’s in Gerontology from Virginia Commonwealth University’s College of Health Professions, where she was awarded the Guy M. Kinman, Ir. Award for her research on health disparities in aging. She was also selected as an Age Wave Scholar Fellow at the Greater Richmond Age Wave Coalition’s Longevity Project.
