Intergenerational Program Database

The Elder Service Partner Program is an intergenerational service-learning experience for students enrolled in GERO 232 Sociology of Aging at Messiah College, a private college in Pennsylvania. Students are paired with an Elder Service Partner (ESP) in completing two types of service. First, students join their ESP in fulfilling obligations their ESPs have already made to their communities at food pantries, service organizations, etc. Second, students also conduct interviews with their ESPs in order to create a chapter of a life story, which is presented to their ESPs at our celebratory reception at the end of the semester.

During the program, the senior citizens and youngsters (most between 13 and 15 years old) compare the similarities and differences of growing up today versus the early- to mid-1900s.

The East Providence Reads Program is designed to enhance the literacy skills of young children of East Providence. Volunteers from RSVP provide their time and skills to help young readers in elementary schools achieve and improve reading scores. This once a week commitment runs from September until June.

Intergenerational program unites school-age children with residents residing in Nursing Homes throughout Rhode Island, the program operates during the school year students visit nursing homes and participate in planned social activities and provide a link to the outside communities Keyword: Shared Site

RSVP matches volunteers ages 55+ with over 80 non-profit organizations in Cranston in need of help from their community. Volunteers are placed according to their skills, life experiences, and interests. One volunteer program includes reading to children in elementary schools.

This is a shared site with adult day care and child day care. The program gives seniors and children the opportunity to build valuable bridges of friendship, acceptance, and respect. These golden bridges are nurtured through weekly scheduled activities while both adults and children reap the rewards of experiencing life together. Activities include exercise programs, arts and crafts, educational discussions, current events, games, modified sports, cards, movies, memory stimulation activities, field trips, music, spiritual time, and various special activities coordinated with community agencies.

Offering an exciting alternative to traditional childcare, Lifetime Discoveries is an Intergenerational Daycare program housed as a full-commercial childcare center. A project of Piedmont Agency on Aging, Lifetime Discoveries is located within the same building as the Greenwood Senior Center. We provide structured, staff supervised activities for the children and seniors including art, gardening, exercise and music. Both children and adults truly benefit from this time together. New Hope is an intergenerational day program that provides service to aging adults and to children. A well-balanced program of activities is provided which includes intergenerational activities.

Hosts intergenerational trips

Second Time Around Parents is a psycho/educational support group for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. Group meetings have speakers, emotional support, social activities and an advocate who helps with lobbying for better laws.
